A Parade of Horribles

Author Matt Dinniman
Genres GameLit & LitRPG Fiction, Fantasy Action & Adventure, Paranormal Fantasy Books, Action & Adventure Fantasy
Publication Date May 12, 2026
Itโ€™s off to the races in the explosive eighth book in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series.

As chaos and mass panic spread outside the dungeon in the wake of Faction Wars, Carl and Donut find themselves on the tenth floor, where theyโ€™re forced to compete in a surprisingly normal set of tasks. Well, normal for the dungeon.

Races. Get from point A to point B, and donโ€™t come in last. After each race, they pick an upgrade for their vehicle and the track gets more challenging. It all seems a little too normal, a little too simple.

Ignore those strange glitches that are occurring with increasing frequency. Donโ€™t listen to those whispers about whatโ€™s happening on the mysterious eleventh floor, something the system AI calls A Parade of Horribles. Nobody, not even the showrunners, knows what that means. Just that the AI has ominously dubbed it โ€œa coming-out party for the ages.โ€

Everything is fine, Crawler. I repeat, everything is fine.

Carl hates that itโ€™s business as usual. The rules of this floor have taken away his agency. That just will not do.

So Carl is planning a party of his own. Itโ€™s a plan so dangerous, so insane, he canโ€™t even consult his friends lest the AI put a stop to it. Because if it goes wrong, itโ€™s not just the end of Carl and Donut. No. The stakes are higher than theyโ€™ve ever been.

A football star and a diehard fan entangled in a PR stuntโ€”that only one side knows is fakeโ€”might be the right play in this new romantic comedy by #1 New York Times bestselling author Lynn Painter.

Duffy Distefano loves three things: her dad, the family cat, and Minneapolis Coyotes football. So when she gets booed out of a game and becomes the internetโ€™s villain, she is distraughtโ€”and disgruntled. All she did was shove Coyote Carl away when he made a move on her, but everyone else just saw a woman attacking their teamโ€™s beloved mascot. Eager to clear the air, Duffy agrees to an interview on a hit morning show. She doesnโ€™t expect a co-guest to join herโ€”especially not the Coyotesโ€™ star tight end.

When MVP Connor Cunningham gets tasked with damage control to help his team out of their PR nightmare, he thought that meant saying a few words on the teamโ€™s behalf. Instead, he finds himself in a highly amusing verbal sparring match with a recently wronged fan on live TV. Duffy pelts him with fiery jabs but is also clearly diehard about the Coyotesโ€”color him intriguedโ€ฆand attracted.

The interview instantly goes viral, and the public is obsessed with them. A strong push from the Coyotesโ€™ PR team to ride the wave results in Connor asking Duffy out. Despite his distaste for PR stunts, heโ€™s surprised to discover being with Duffy is much easier than he thought, and somehow it doesnโ€™t feel fake to him. Harboring this secret can only blow up, but all he knows is that if he messes things up with Duffy, itโ€™ll be the greatest fumble of his life.

June Baby

Author Shannon Garvey
Genres Coming of Age Fiction, Family Life Fiction, Women's Domestic Life Fiction, Women's Friendship Fiction
Publication Date May 12, 2026
Some summers never leave you.

In this moving debut novel, set over the course of one transformative summer in the lush, beachy enclave of Block Island, a young woman reckons with love, loss, and the choices she must make to move forward.

At seventeen, Ruth lost her mother to cancer, and her father, unable to handle his grieving daughter, shipped her off to Block Island with nothing but a name scribbled on the back of a Diana Beckett. Diana, a renowned photographer, took Ruth in for the summer, and Block Island became Ruthโ€™s refuge, a place of beauty and creativity, a place where she could nurture her dreams of being a writer, a place where she could fall in love for the first timeโ€”with Dianaโ€™s nephew, Charlie.

Now, at twenty-seven, Ruth has spent the last ten summers living and working among the lucky few who get to vacation in this wealthy beach town, and the rest of the year just scraping by, yearning to return to the place where she feels safe and unburdened. But then Ruthโ€™s world is upended by tragedy again. Desperate for an anchor, she reaches for the person sheโ€™s been pining for since she met himโ€”Charlieโ€”who has his own startling revelation to share. And when another surprise comes in the form of a box left to Ruth by Diana, its contents raise questions about just how well she knew the two women who raised her. โ€ข Torn between what to believe about her past, and what her future might hold, Ruth is faced with another choice: does she dare to rewrite her story entirely?

Both a heartfelt coming-of-age story and a tender exploration of love and grief, set against a backdrop of golden dunes and seaside sunsets, June Baby shows us what it might look like to embrace a life shaped not by loss, but by possibility.

The Last Mandarin

Author Mellissa Fung
Genres Literature & Fiction, Political Thrillers
Publication Date May 12, 2026
A standalone thriller co-written by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the Gamache series and an award-winning journalist.

In a fast-paced, all-too-real thriller co-written by #1 New York Times bestselling author Louise Penny and award-winning journalist Mellissa Fung, global politics become personal for two unlikely heroines. Alice Li, a first-generation Chinese-American, is an erstwhile food blogger who has lived in the shadow of her mother, Vivien Li. A Chinese dissident who escaped China after Tiananmen Square, Vivien is now a globally recognized human rights activist and passionate advocate for a free and democratic China.

When security and fire alarms go off simultaneously all around the world, setting off a panic, the signal is traced back to China. As world leaders scramble to respond, Vivien and Alice are called to the White House in hopes Madame Li can decode the Chinese intentions.

While it makes some sense that the President would turn to Vivien, since she regularly advises world leaders on the actions of todayโ€™s Chinese government, what isnโ€™t clear is why theyโ€™d want to talk to Alice.

After looking at the evidence, Vivien says that the only thing worse than the Chinese government being behind it, is if they are not. It would mean, she explains, that some clandestine element within China is calling the shots. That the President of China has lost control. And an unstable China cannot be good for anyone.

Or perhaps thatโ€™s exactly what the shrewd old politician wants everyone to think.

Caught up in the chaos, Vivien and Alice are uniquely placed to stop the next, cataclysmic attack. But there are forces deep within both the American and Chinese governments intent on stopping mother and daughter. The estranged pair, who excels at misunderstanding each other, must figure out how to work together.

The increasingly frantic search for answers takes the women from the Oval Office to an office building in Akron, Ohio, from the noodle shops of Hong Kong to the necropolis of the first emperor. Along the way they must decode an old legend, and an old language invented by women, for women.

The Last Mandarin is an electrifying study of absolute power and voracious greed, political terror and personal conviction. But it is also, as to be expected from the minds of Louise Penny, beloved author of the Gamache novels, and Mellissa Fung, an acclaimed international journalist, an intimate examination of choice, of sacrifice, of memory and myths, both cultural and personal. It is the story of a mother and daughter, as well as a compelling international thriller about the precarious balance of power across the world, and within a family. And what happens when both break down.

Genres 19th Century Historical Fiction, Biographical & Autofiction, Family Life Fiction, Women's Domestic Life Fiction
Publication Date May 12, 2026
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Christina Baker Kline comes a boldly original reimagining of an astonishing true two sisters in nineteenth-century North Carolinaโ€”Klineโ€™s own distant relativesโ€”who married world-famous conjoined twins from Siam.

When Chang and Eng Bunker arrive in Wilkes County in 1839, theyโ€™re not just a curiosityโ€”theyโ€™re a sensation. Everyone is eager to learn whether the salacious rumors about them are true. Within months, the twins have opened a general store, bought land, and begun building a plantation. Now, word has it, theyโ€™re looking for wivesโ€”and in a place that thrives on gossip and legacy, their ambitions set the community on edge.

Sarah and Adelaide Yates, daughters of a once-prominent local family brought low by scandal, are drawn into their orbit. Bold, beautiful Addie sees in the twinsโ€™ fame a chance to reclaim her future. Sallie, quiet and observant, isnโ€™t so sure. When the twinsโ€™ lives become entangled with theirs, they must navigate loyalty, longing, and identity in a world where everythingโ€”including race, class, and genderโ€”is rigidly defined.

Spanning five decades and unfolding against the backdrop of a fractured nation hurtling toward war, The Foursome is both intimate and a story of love and constraint, identity and reinvention. With piercing insight and emotional precision, Kline brings to life a forgotten chapter of American history and the complex, boundary-defying marriages at its center.

A โ€œrichly detailed and evocativeโ€ queer retelling of the legend of Sir Lancelot, following the famous knight as he grows up orphaned, falls in love, and attempts to fulfill his destiny at the Round Table โ€“ a stunning debut novel from the author of Out East (Mary Beth Keane, New York Times bestselling author).

Hidden away on the Isle of Women, a nameless orphan has grown up among the island's sisterhood, but always at a distance. He hears whispers of a prophecy that may shed light on his destinyโ€”and his true identity. Lancelot. Determined to master the skills and knowledge worthy of the knight he is meant to be, he begins training alongside the handsome Galehaut. As the two grow closer, they guide one another towards their truest selves. But no matter how tightly they cling to one another, each has a role to play in the wizard Merlin's grand prophecies.

When Lancelot is forced to follow Merlin to Camelot, he fights to protect his heart while seeking the fabled Holy Grail. As he grows closer to his fellow knights, Lancelot must keep an explosive secret to himselfโ€”the truth of what he left behind on the Isle of Women, of the man he truly is beneath the armor. All the while, Roman legionaries too scour far and wide for the grail. As an army encroaches on their kingdom, King Arthur and his knights must race to ensure that this powerful object doesn't fall into the wrong hands.

Steeped in rich medieval lore, THE LOST BOOK OF LANCELOT is an immersive, poignant reexamination of the most famous knight of the Round Table. It is the story of a once vulnerable boy who is forced to rise to the occasion, of a kingdom under siege, and of the battle between the old world and the new.

Small Town Smokeshow

Author Holly Renee
Genres Small Town & Rural Fiction, Sisters Fiction, Western & Frontier Romance
Publication Date May 12, 2026
Hunter Calloway is a small town smokeshow and the kind of man my father warned me about.

Heโ€™s got a reputation a mile wide, a smile that could burn through any girlโ€™s good sense, and did I mention heโ€™s also the man my sister once loved and left behind?

He strolls through town like he owns it, tips his hat with a promise in his eyes, and slides those calloused hands across my bakery counter like they havenโ€™t been haunting my dreams for years. Heโ€™s six feet of pure temptation wrapped in worn Wranglers, and every time Iโ€™m near him, itโ€™s like striking a match during a droughtโ€ฆ

Dangerous, inevitable, and exactly what I shouldnโ€™t want.

I try to convince myself I donโ€™t notice the way his gaze lingers, or the way he says my name as if heโ€™s tasting it. But all my good intentions crumble to dust when we find ourselves alone under a sky full of stars with nothing but whiskey and want between us.

And it changes everything.

We promise each other weโ€™re just having fun, yet his fingertips brush across my skin when no oneโ€™s watching, and we pretend we donโ€™t ache for each other in a room full of people who would never understand. Every kiss stays in the dark, every desire whispered like a secret, and every touch brands me with guilt.

I know better than to fall for a cowboy like him.
I know better than to want my sisterโ€™s past.
But when his eyes find mine, I forget every reason Iโ€™ve ever had to say no.

Every touch feels like a risk and every secret like a countdown. Iโ€™m lying to everyone, falling harder for a man who never promised me anything, and wondering how much longer I can pretend I donโ€™t care whether Iโ€™m just another notch on his well-worn belt.

Because Iโ€™m in love with Hunter Calloway regardless of the cost.

Publication Date May 12, 2026
For readers of Karen Russell, Maggie Shipstead, and Eowyn Ivey, an exuberant, highly imaginative epic about a family that settles, against all odds, in the far reaches of the Arctic and the unexpected industry that keeps them afloat for generations.

In the far reaches of the Territory of the Arctic, the Spahr family lives on a fjord accessible only by kayak and float plane, in a landscape rapidly changing as glaciers melt and sea levels rise. Their home is Jubilation House, aptly they are a family of free spirit and full-hearted love, descendants of the homesteaders who came to this place in a reckless scheme to civilize the Glacial Front. They live off the grid in a converted fisherman's shack, selling pickled octopus and sea crops, barely scraping by. With every day, their livelihood seems ever more precarious.

Then one of their few neighbors dredges up a centuries-old piano, a vestige from the original homesteading expedition, when every family was required to haul a six-hundred-pound instrument as a sign of mannerly societyโ€”almost none made it to their final destination. Now, this intricately carved beauty has emerged, perfectly preserved from the frigid Arctic waters, and the antique treasure becomes a priceless collectorsโ€™ item. A new economic boom seizes the territoryโ€”piano huntingโ€”and the Spahrs throw themselves into the quest with full-throated aplomb. But the costs of their possible salvation soon begin to mount.

The Pillagers' Guide to Arctic Pianos travels through generations, backward to the Spahrsโ€™ homesteader origins and forward to their descendants, eccentrics and optimists all. In a voice as buoyant and vibrant as the characters themselves, Kendra Langford Shaw gives us an unforgettable and inventive ode to the abiding love of family and pull of home, even as the home we love becomes ever more challenging to inhabit.

From the best-selling author of Isabella Nagg and the Pot of Basil, a new, hilarious novel in the Household Gramarye universe.

In the storm-drenched city of Verdigris, home to indolent sorcerers and spectral hotels, something is dreadfully wrong. Buildings are starting to crumble due to the kidnapping of their hobs, the many legged house spirits that keep each home in order. In such times, one would ordinarily blame the Devil, but he has been enchanted by a new and enticing The jackbooted villainy of Gwendolyn Gooch, who has taken the hobs for her latest diabolical schemeโ€”apartments for rent. As the hobs retrofit the gaudy Gooch Towers, the fate of the city lies in the hands of the arboreal Professor Green; his rare, complete set of the Household Gramarye; and its famulus, the prim Mrs. Bobkins.

A Harlem Wedding

Author Tiffany L. Warren
Genres 20th Century Historical Fiction, Biographical & Autofiction, Black & African American Historical Fiction, Black & African American Women's Fiction
Publication Date May 12, 2026
From The Unexpected Diva author Tiffany Warrenโ€”a dishy and dramatic novel of the Harlem Renaissance and its most famous Black debutante, Yolande Du Bois, daughter of W.E.B. Du Bois, whose spectacular wedding to poet Countee Cullen was the society event of the year...even though the bride and groom were not-so-secretly in love with other people.

A century ago, Harlemโ€™s glittering social scene had a single Yolande Du Bois, the only child of N.A.A.C.P. icon W.E.B. Du Bois. Yolande was bold, vivacious, and beloved of every gossip columnist. A true daddyโ€™s girl, Yolande followed her fatherโ€™s advice on from where she went to college (Fiskโ€”Papaโ€™s alma mater) to which sorority she joined (Delta Sigma Theta). But in matters of the heart, Yolande and her father did not agree. Dr. Du Bois himself curated a string of handsome suitors from the โ€œTalented Tenthโ€ for her, but Yolandeโ€™s true love was jazz musician Jimmie Lunceford, son of a working-class family from far-off Denver, Colorado. Their romance was an open secret, and more than a little scandalous.

Despite it all, Yolande wound up marrying her fatherโ€™s famed poet Countee Cullen. Their lavish uptown wedding was the hottest social ticket of 1928. With three thousand attendees, sixteen bridesmaids, and Langston Hughes as a groomsman, it was truly a sight to behold.

But, immediately after the wedding, Yolandeโ€™s carefully constructed fairy tale begins to crumble. Torn between the expectations of her father and society and her heartโ€™s true desire, Yolande is forced to decide whether she must leave Harlem to create a more authentic life on her own terms.

A Harlem Wedding is a heady read about love, notoriety, Black excellence, deception, and the trรจs chic lifestyles of the Black elite, from speakeasies of Harlem and the green fields of Fisk University, all the way to Le Grand Duc in Paris.

And yet we see you communicate without words. We see you organize and build.

We see you killing us.

A dazzlingly original and bleakly funny debut novel that follows one harried working mother before and after a devastating weather event, capturing the everyday wonders and infuriating indignities of mothering in a time of ecological crisis.

Thea spends her days among stubborn animals, many of which are massive or in pain, but theyโ€™re not really whatโ€™s causing her to feel overwhelmed. A vet at a midsized rural practice, sheโ€™s been called back from her maternity leave early to find herself awash in meetings, family mealtimes, farm visits, her bossโ€™s search for legal loopholes and the constant care of her much-loved children, Eli and Lucy. Her husband would like to know what he should get his mother for her birthday, which sheโ€™s had to remind him is next weekโ€”Calm down, she tells the listener, Iโ€™m not going to have an affair. This is a woman who knows intimately what it is to tend to a small childโ€™s fever in the small hours of the night while The Bachelor glows silently from her phone.

And then, suddenly, in the time it takes to drive home from a rare evening out, everything is upended. Nothing is constant, now, except for the ash, and Thea is left marveling at the things that change and the ones that donโ€™t at what may very well be the end of the world.

โ€œSpinning at the Edges is, simply, a marvel."โ€”Edward P. Jones, Pulitzer Prize-winning author of The Known World

From the author of the acclaimed As Close to Us as Breathing, a captivating novel steeped in history, revealing the bonds of family and community, and the healing powers hidden inside broken hearts.

Ruth Pearl has lived in the small New England town of Wells, Connecticut on the shore of Lake Topaqua for much of her adult life. Decades back, she and her parents fled German-occupied Amsterdam after the murder of her beloved older sister Sophia. Her view of Lake Topaqua, in the wake of such loss, has long been a deep comfort to Ruth.

But in the winter of 2000, Ruthโ€™s neighbor builds an addition to his home that blocks Ruthโ€™s lake view, disrupting her peace and sense of control. She seeks a legal resolution and finds none. Her helplessness sparks fear that her past is happening again.

Ruth heads out one day to skate on the lake only to spot a boy, in the distance, falling through the ice. County judge Arthur Cantrell also witnesses the fall, and together Ruth and the judge save sixteen-year-old Ian Limaโ€™s life. The act is, for all of them, redemptive. Over the days to come Ruth and Arthur help to heal Ian, both physically and mentally, and all three find unexpected solace. Ruth even feels able, at long last, to share the story of her life during the Holocaust with her adult daughter.

Set against the backdrop of the controversial 2000 presidential election, dramatizing the growing interconnection between disparate charactersโ€™ lives, and steeped in history both recent and remembered, Spinning at the Edges is the story of a woman, a family, a community, the stories that bind us, and how loveโ€”and even democracyโ€”are fragile concepts in a changing, spinning world.

Charlie Taylor returns to her hometown of Lainey Springs in Upstate New York looking for a reset, not a romance. Once the frontman of a chart-topping country band, Jameson has spent years choosing responsibility over reinvention. Now he runs his familyโ€™s bar and keeps his dreams firmly in the past.

Past and present collide in this posthumous, semiautobiographical masterpiece, which tells the stories of two Black World War II servicemen, their white commanding officer, a famous gospel singer, and an enslaved man making his escape in the early nineteenth century.

In the present day, a Black American expat to Rome called D. reconnects with his former Army friend Tillman and their former commanding officer Joe Stabat to organize a gospel summit for the singer Little Antioch. In the 1940s, as D. becomes enmeshed in Tillman's large and boisterous family, Tillman recounts the story of his fabled ancestor King Comus. And in the early nineteenth century, master musician King Comus embarks on a grand journey to freedom.

William Demby, author of the "masterpiece" Beetlecreek (Kirkus Reviews), employs a cinematic style in this time-bending tale of survival and kinship, which weaves elements of the neo-slave narrative and Afrofuturism into a panoramic vision encompassing the forces of empire, race, gender, and religion. From the social media superstar behind @SimonSits, Isabel Klee--known for her heartwarming tales of dog rescue--comes an utterly winning memoir about a twentysomething woman's search for true love in New York City and the dogs who helped her find it.

A Jersey girl by birth, Isabel Klee had always wanted to live in New York City. At age 20, she got her chance, ditching her college upstate for Marymount Manhattan and moving into a tiny basement apartment on the Upper East Side. Dog-obsessed since childhood, her first post-grad job was managing content for the mega-popular account The Dogist, and something clicked into place: a career focused on helping dogs was the new dream.

Isabel quickly found a passion for using her own growing platform to help rescue pups find their forever homes. At the same time, she was caught up in a whirlwind of friendships, parties, fickle boyfriends and grand romances, which she recounts in honest, tender, and sometimes devastating chapters about the search for love and belonging.

Isabel's first true love, though, was Simon, a fluffy puppy who'd been saved from the meat trade. As the highs and lows of this classically-turbulent decade hit Isabel in wave after wave, it was Simon who kept her grounded. Together, Isabel and Simon created an online community of dog-lovers, fellow foster advocates, and girls just trying to get through the trenches of their twenties.

In this adorable and moving memoir, Isabel weaves together the stories of her foster dogs--and the challenges she helped them overcome--with tales of bad dates, hard decisions, and great loves in New York City, all leading to a happy ending not only for the rescue pups, but for Isabel herself.

Should such an event occur, Tyson further offers useful etiquette tips for your first close encounter.

If youโ€™ve ever wondered why there are so many UFO sightings, or whether Aliens might already be among us, Tyson offers an informed perspective that is both factual and fun. American Rambler

Author Isaac Fitzgerald
Genres Biographies & Memoirs, Memoirs, Sports & Outdoors, Individual Sports, Running & Jogging, Religion & Spirituality, Worship & Devotion, Faith
Publication Date May 12, 2026
New York Times bestselling author Isaac Fitzgerald sets off to the heart of America, following the path of the legendary Johnny Appleseed on an epic journey that both takes him far from home and brings him closer to it.

Itโ€™s a difficult thing, to separate legend from story from memory from fact. โ€ข The Reverend spoke: โ€œIn the spirit of John Chapman, who loved apples for their nutrition and their symbolismโ€ฆโ€
โ€œAnd cider,โ€ I whispered.

As a child, Isaac Fitzgerald became obsessed with Johnny Appleseed. Maybe because the legendary ramblerโ€”born John Chapmanโ€”grew up just down the road from his motherโ€™s family farm. Maybe because of the larger-than-life tales his dad told him on walks in the woods, stories that planted the idea that adventure and discovery lay around every bend in the road. Or perhaps it was a shared sense of restlessness; the same search for both freedom and solitude and what they mean in America 250 years ago and today. Who hasnโ€™t wanted to simply walk out the front door and see whatโ€™s out there?

American Rambler is a story about walking; about searching; about one man following the myth of another to find something true about himself and about America. Over the course of a year, Fitzgerald walks in Appleseedโ€™s footsteps, following the path Chapman took from birth to death, from Leominster, MA to Fort Wayne, IN. Using as a starting point the lesser-known facts of Appleseedโ€™s biographyโ€”that he belonged to an obscure Christian sect, or that that the bitter, hard apples he distributed were used almost exclusively for making alcoholic beveragesโ€”Fitzgerald weaves history and memoir seamlessly, reckoning with his own relationship with alcohol and his familyโ€™s shadow of mental illness, reflecting on this nationโ€™s rich, raw, often romanticized past and myths we still tell ourselves about the heartland of the country today.

On his journey, Fitzgerald is attacked by dogs, nearly hit by a train, and taken in by strangers more than once. With each step he takes, we see his unique talent for teasing out the human capacity for contemplation and kindness, bearing him up amidst loss and grief, ritual and faith, grimy gas-station bathrooms, and a whole lot of apple lore. From choral music in cathedrals to tattoo-trimmed vets in back-alley bars, this is a true American odyssey and an antidote to the breakneck pace of modern life. Hopeful, intimate, and often hilarious, this story is about uncovering the things that really matter in this life.
