Darcy Vega is one of the Gemini Twins and the Lost Princesses of Solaria. Darcy has olive green eyes and her black hair is dyed blue at the tips. She is the more even-tempered twin out of the Vega twins.

After she turns 18, Darcy sneaks back into her foster parents’ house to take the money she and Tory had saved while living there. Cops arrive and Darcy has to flee. A mysterious stranger, later revealed to be Orion, helps her escape.

Later that evening, Tory arrives at the apartment with Professor Orion, who tells them that they are the lost princesses of Solaria and Gemini twins. If they attend Zodiac Academy, survive The Reckoning, and graduate, they can claim their inheritance and technically inherit the throne of Solaria.

Darcy arrives at Zodiac Academy and attends The Awakening. The stars awaken all four elemental magics in her: fire, water, air, and earth. They have to also join elemental houses, but since Tory and Darcy are so strong, they have to pick separate houses. Darcy joins House Aer, thinking Seth, the Celestial Heir of Air, seems kind.

Seth hazes Darcy along with other freshmen. He gives Darcy two choices: cut off her hair and give it to Seth, or jump out the window. Darcy jumps out the window and lands on the floor with air magic. Seth, not expecting this act of bravery, seethes and tells Darcy she still owes him her hair.

Darcy and Tory become friends with Geraldine Grus, a supporter of their claim to the throne, Sofia, a member of the Ignis House, and Diego Polaris, a member of the Aer House.

Meanwhile, the Heirs continue bullying Darcy and Tory, having been threatened by their claim to the throne, and try to get them to leave the Academy.

Darcy begins learning about her elemental powers, receives mysterious messages about a conspiracy about her parents’ demise, and is assigned a liaison to learn about the Fae world: Professor Orion.

Max, a siren with the ability to coerce memories out of her, asks Darcy her biggest fear. Darcy reveals that the boy she lost her virginity to has ghosted her, and she dyed her hair tips blue to remind herself how black and blue she felt after the incident and that she’ll never trust anyone ever again.

One evening, they go out to the bar with Sofia and Diego. A nymph attack happens as Darcy tries to meet with Falling Star, the mysterious source. After the attack is dispatched, Darcy, Tory, and the twins declare one night of truce, where Darcy dances with Seth, the two of them getting close.

Seth begins showing real interest in Darcy, and she starts letting her guard down. The night of the school dance, she goes with Seth. She goes outside to get some air, running into Professor Orion. Orion tells her to stay away from Seth.

Frustrated by the hot and cold of Professor Orion, Darcy makes out with Seth to spite him. However, while she is in Seth’s arms, he uses their closeness to his advantage and cuts Darcy’s hair. Darcy is devastated, and Seth tells her he got what he’s owed.

Darcy looks for Tory and finds that the Heirs have gotten to her too. Darcy finds Tory trapped in ice under the water, where Darius and Max are using their magic to keep her there. Orion drags her out of the water and heals Tory, but Darcy is devastated alongside her sister.

Tory steals a bike to make ends meet and takes it to a bartender named Joey to sell it on the black market. At Joey’s bar, she meets Professor Orion, who follows her home.

Professor Orion tells them that they are the lost princesses of Solaria and Gemini twins. If they attend Zodiac Academy, survive The Reckoning, and graduate, they can claim their inheritance and technically rule the throne of Solaria.

Tory arrives at Zodiac Academy and attends The Awakening. The stars awaken all four elemental magics in her: fire, water, air, and earth. Tory joins House Ignis, and she is set to face Darius Acrux, the house captain of House Ignis and the Celestial Heir of Fire.

To enter House Ignis, Tory has to run an obstacle course. She makes it to the end, but Darius, throwing one more challenge at her, makes her walk through fire. It burns her clothes and the money they retrieved from Pete’s house, leaving her naked. Another student takes pictures of Tory and distributes it on Faebook, the social media platform of Zodiac.

Tory and Darcy become friends with Geraldine Grus, a supporter of their claim to the throne, Sofia, a member of the Ignis House, and Diego Polaris, a member of the Aer House.

Meanwhile, the Heirs continue bullying Darcy and Tory, having been threatened by their claim to the throne, and try to get them to leave the Academy.

Their first morning in the dining hall, Caleb, the Terra Celestial Heir, bites Tory and drinks her blood, revealing himself to be a vampire. Later, he declares Tory his “source,” meaning no one but him can feed from her.

Tory begins learning about her elemental powers, receives mysterious messages about a conspiracy about her parents’ demise, and is assigned a liaison, Professor Prestos, to learn about the Fae, who is helpful but happy to conduct their business via email.

In fire class, Tory is bit by Caleb again. Professor Pyro wonders if she’s too drained, but Caleb’s draining of her power didn’t even make a dent in her reserves. Professor Pyro is not strong enough to help her guide her magic, so he assigns the only person strong enough to power share with Tory who knows how to wield magic: Darius Acrux. Darius has no interest in teaching Tory.

The twins are assigned Order enhancement classes to find out what order they are. They attend Werewolf Order class and are revealed not to be werewolves.

After her first and only in-person class with Professor Prestos, Tory spots Darius and Orion talking secretively. She follows them and eavesdrops to hear they’re hoping to kill “them” soon. Considering they had plenty of time to kill them both, Tory is unsure whether they’re talking about her and Darcy or someone else entirely.

Max, a siren with the ability to coerce memories out of her, asks Tory her biggest fear. Tory reveals that she and her ex-boyfriend drove off the road and fell into water in his vehicle, and he left her there to drown. She is now forever afraid of deep water.

One evening, they go out to the bar with Sofia and Diego. A nymph attack happens as Tory tries to meet with Falling Star, the mysterious source. After the attack is dispatched, Darcy, Tory, and the twins declare one night of truce. Tory dances with Caleb and Darius, getting especially close with both of them.

Darius skips their tutoring session and Tory decides to confront him. She finds him laying on a pile of gold in his bed and makes fun of him. Darius mocks her lack of knowledge about Fae Orders and reveals that he’s a Dragon and gold is how dragons replenish magic.

Caleb starts showing more interest in Tory and they become close. Eventually, they hook up in a classroom and Caleb asks her to skip the dance and hang out with him instead.

Tory arrives at the school dance where Darius shows up and asks her to leave the Academy. She refuses. To teach her a lesson, the Heirs drag her to the pool and coerce her to get into it. Darius and Max use their power to trap Tory under the pool by turning the surface to ice. Seth cheers them on while Caleb idly watches, neither participating nor helping. Tory nearly drowns and loses consciousness.

Professor Orion arrives with Darcy and saves Tory and heals her. Tory, however, is shaken and devastated. When they leave the pool, they find Professor Astrum’s (Falling Star) body charred on the ground. Tory instinctively reaches out, and a tarot card flies into her hand, advising her that the answers she’s looking for are between Libra and Leo.

Professor Orion is the Cardinal Magic Professor and Pitball Coach at Zodiac Academy.

He arrives in the mortal world and retrieves Darcy and Tory Vega to begin their education at Zodiac Academy and claim their throne, should they want to.

Orion is a vampire and believes in the power-based structure of Fae. His instruction of Cardinal Magic is a testament to that.

He is assigned as Darcy Vega’s liaison to teach her about Fae customs and how to resist Coercion. He’s always late to his classes and drinks a lot of bourbon.

During one of his classes, he drinks from Tory, which Caleb confronts him for, as Tory is claimed as Caleb’s Source. In return, Orion claims Darcy as his Source. He bites Darcy to replenish his power.

He sneaks around in the woods with Darius, discussing how and when to kill a mysterious “them.”

One evening, he’s spotted at the bar the twins are at with their friends, with a woman. He appears to be on a date with this woman.

During the school dance, Orion warns Darcy to stay away from Seth, which she refuses. After Seth cuts Darcy’s hair, he shows back up and comforts her. Later, when the twins nearly drown Tory, Orion saves her, heals her, and gives the twins detention.

Darius is the Celestial Heir of Fire.

Darius is the House Captain of House Ignis and a dragon shifter.

When Darcy and Tory arrive at Zodiac Academy, he and the other Celestial Heirs feel threatened by their claim to the throne. Darius and the others make it their mission to drive the twins away from Zodiac and secure their claim to the throne.

When Tory joins House Ignis, in addition to making her run the obstacle course, Darius also makes her walk through a ring of fire, burning all of her clothes and possessions as well.

He has an on-again, off-again relationship with another member of House Ignis, Marguerite Helebor, a sphinx. While Darius considers the relationship to be purely physical, Marguerite thinks they’re in love.

Darius spends The Awakening trying to intimidate the Vega twins and drive them off Zodiac Academy.

He has ulterior motives as well, as he sneaks around the woods with Orion discussing killing a mysterious “them.”

When Professor Pyro assigns Darius to tutor Tory, because her well of power is too deep and no one but Darius can wield fire as well and power share with her, he agrees to the assignment at first glance, but refuses to tutor her later on. When Tory arrives at his room to confront him, Darius reveals his Order to be a dragon, and that he replenishes his magic by touching gold.

On a night out with the other Celestial Heirs, Darius dances with Tory, becoming somewhat intimate with her.

After Max coerces the twins to reveal their biggest fears, Darius asks Tory to leave one last time. When she refuses, Darius leads the others to bring her worst fear to life. He coerces Tory to strip to her underwear and enter a pool. He and Max then use their water gifts to freeze the surface of the pool.

Tory nearly drowns. When Orion and Darcy arrive and save Tory, Darius and the other Celestial Heirs are sent to detention.

Max is a Pisces, a Water and Air wielder, and is a Siren. He has dark skin and a mohawk.

When the twins first arrive at Zodiac Academy, Max is threatened. He joins the other Heirs in bullying the girls to drive them off the academy.

During Siren Enhancement class, he drives the twins’ worst fears out of them to use against them, hoping to push them to leave the academy.

When Darius coerces Tory to enter the pool, Max joins him to keep the surface frozen, nearly drowning Tory. After Orion and Darcy arrive and save Tory, Max is sent to detention alongside the other Heirs.

Caleb is the Celestial Heir of Earth.

Caleb is the Celestial Heir of Terra. He can wield Earth and Fire elements. He’s a vampire.

When the Vega twins first arrive at Zodiac Academy, Caleb is threatened. He is annoyed that they’re gifted with all four elements and confused that they’re so attractive. On their first interaction, Caleb bites Tory and drinks her blood, displaying his dominance, as Fae value strength above all. Later on, Caleb claims Tory as his Source, an exclusive magic source just for Caleb.

Throughout The Awakening, Caleb joins the other Heirs to bully the twins, continuously biting Tory to replenish his magic and coating Darcy in mud, among other things.

When Orion shows a feat of strength in his classroom and bites Tory, Caleb shows up and challenges Orion, since he claimed Tory as his Source. Orion backs down.

On a Friday night, the Heirs run into the twins at a bar. They call a truce for the night, and Caleb dances with Tory.

Eventually, Caleb begins being interested in Tory, and the two of them hook up in a classroom. Caleb asks Tory to even skip the school dance so they can spend the night together.

When Darius and Max order Tory to get into the pool and keep her frozen, Caleb doesn’t participate, but he also doesn’t help. After Orion and Darcy intervene to save Tory, Caleb is sent to detention alongside the other Heirs.

Seth is the Celestial Heir of Air.

Seth wields the power of Air and Earth, is an Aquarius, and is a werewolf. He is kind-of dating Kylie Major.

When Darcy decides to join House Aer, Seth hazes her alongside the other freshmen, but takes it even further with Darcy by asking her to either jump off the Aer tower or cut off her hair. Darcy surprises him by jumping off the tower and landing using her Aer powers, and Seth promises he’ll get her hair.

He joins the other Heirs throughout the book bullying the twins. He helps cake Darcy in mud, helps hold Tory down, and even abandons them in the woods when they join Werewolf Order Enhancement class and they appear not to be wolves.

When the twins run into them at a bar on a Friday night and they all call truce, Seth dances with Darcy, the situation getting intimate.

Eventually, on the night of the school dance, Seth follows Darcy outside and the two of them make out. Seth uses their closeness to cut off Darcy’s hair, devastating her.

Later on, he joins the other Heirs when they nearly drown Tory and is sent to detention alongside the other Celestial Heirs.

Geraldine Grus is a sophomore in Zodiac Academy. She and her family have been loyal supporters of the Vega line, something Geraldine feels very strongly about as soon as she meets the twins. A loyal friend and devoted supporter, Geraldine becomes fast friends with the girls.

She is the president of the Almighty Sovereign Society (A.S.S.), an organization that would like to see the twins restored to the throne.

During lunches, Geraldine saves a table for Darcy and Tory and even gets food for them.

The twins initially find her overly enthusiastic and a little weird, but they eventually realize Geraldine is a devoted friend and warm up to her.

On the night the twins go out to the bar, Geraldine gets attacked by a Nymph but survives. She spends a few days in the Uranus Infirmary.

Diego Polaris is the same age as Darcy and Tory. He arrives at the Academy at the same time as them and is Awakened alongside them. Diego joins House Aer.

Diego speaks Spanish fluently and is devoted to his late abuela, who knitted him a beanie he always wears and gave him a memento box.

He becomes fast friends with the Vega twins, Sofia, and Geraldine, spending a lot of time with them. It’s unclear whether he has a crush on any of the girls, but he’s protective over them and accompanies them frequently.

On the night the twins go out to a bar, after Sofia gets too drunk, he takes her home.

Sofia Cygnus is a Pegasus and a member of House Ignis. Sofia is not a very powerful Fae, a fact she regularly remarks on. She is, however, very good at spells.

Sofia becomes an amazing friend to Darcy and Tory, regularly joining them for pranks and escapades.

On the night the twins go out, she joins them and drinks with them. When she gets too drunk, Diego takes her home.
