Editorial Standards

Why these standards exist
Readers come here to find books worth their time. Clear rules keep our coverage fair, useful, and trustworthy.
How we choose what to review
We track publisher catalogs, industry announcements, and reader requests. A book makes the list when at least one editor believes it offers a fresh angle on its genre.
Reading and rating process
- Every book is read cover to cover unless we call a DNF (did not finish).
- Reviews focus on plot, pacing, character depth, tropes, and emotional impact.
- Star ratings use a simple five-star scale with half-stars allowed. How we rate books.
- Pull quotes come directly from finished copies or final review proofs.
Fact checking and sourcing
Dates, sales data, and quotations are verified against primary sources such as publisher press releases, author interviews, and trade databases. When we cite another outlet we link to it.
Independence and ethics
- No one outside the editorial team sees a review before it publishes.
- Advance review copies never guarantee coverage or a positive verdict.
- We do not accept paid placement for reviews. Sponsored content is labeled “Sponsored” at the top of the post.
Affiliate links and ads
Some outbound links earn us a small commission if you buy a book. These links never influence our opinions or the order in which titles appear.
Corrections and updates
We correct factual errors as soon as we spot them and mark the change at the end of the article with the date. Major updates, such as revised ratings after a new edition, receive a “Updated” note at the top.
